Young at Midnight
by Jennifer Ann Shore Synopsis of the book from Amazon: Travis Young is the rock star with a reputation, too many tattoos to count, and an unexplained three-year hiatus. I never thought I’d see him again after high school. But when my career as a hard-hitting reporter is derailed when my work gets caught up in a legal mess, my editor sends me to cover Travis’s upcoming album release while the whole thing blows over. The lifestyle of private jets, city hopping, and exclusive parties is alluring, but it’s not something I get easily caught up in. I’m here for the story—definitely not for the musician with an attitude, gut-wrenching lyrics, and killer blue eyes. . . . So, this is the second book by Jennifer Ann Shore that I have devoured. The first was "Perfect Little Flaws" which was more of a YA romance than Young at Midnight. So when the opportunity to read this book came about as an ARC reader, I was ALL IN! Jennifer has a way of sucking you into the story from page one, and I loved it! "I don't just write songs and perform them. I observe life, situations, and little moments and then try to capture the art from it all and make it accessible to others who will never get to experience it." Dakota is a reporter for EXOS and has made a great name for herself through her investigative journalism. She's impeccable with her research and her boss thinks she's amazing. She's working on publishing a story on some investment banker, and when she does, she gets called into the office of her boss and is told she's been requested by Travis Young, rock's biggest heart throb, and a guy she grew up with in her hometown in Pennsylvania. This story is completely outside of her comfort zone, but she's been volunTOLD to do it, so off she goes. Travis is a rock star, Typical party animal who drinks and does drugs and sleeps with anyone he can. But for the past three years, he's been incognito and hasn't done ONE interview with the press, doing his best to stay out of the limelight. He's written a new album that is a complete detour from his usual stuff and his manager, Leigh, has requested that Dakota cover it for them. During their short time together trying to put a piece together for EXOS and the music label, Dakota is tasked with not just doing a highlight piece of Travis and his new album, but she's offered a documentary, with a significant pay raise and editor/producer credits that she can't turn down. But that also means joining Travis and his band on the North American leg of the tour. "I figure that if all the music snobs are going to be at the festival, maybe you'd want to be a tourist in the city with me?" Travis is deeper than Dakota expects, and when she finds herself falling in love with him, things take an unexpected turn one day in Seattle, and they end up walking all around the city as tourists. Not as a famous musician and a well known reporter with a knack for exposing everyone's truth but her own. When life and jobs get back in the way, Travis and Dakota part on uncertain terms. Dakota goes back to NYC to finish up a follow up article on the investment banker story, and Travis continues on the rest of the North American tour. When Dakota is forced to make a decision to protect Travis and be a good friend and an ethical reporter, or destroy lives just for a headline and a little bit of short lived fame, she quits her job and flies immediately to the LAST STOP on the tour. Which also happens to be in Pennsylvania. Back to Travis. The ending is sweet and gives you ALL the feels. It's really a perfect wrap up to a story that is full of smiles and a couple what if's that keep you on your toes. I can't wait to read what Jennifer Ann Shore has next up her sleeve!
